ROCKFORD, Ill. – As part of his efforts to create and keep jobs in the Rockford area, state Rep. Dave Vella, D-Rockford, was joined by other local leaders for a press conference in front of the Belvidere Assembly Plant to support legislation incentivizing electric vehicle manufacturing in Illinois. The legislation provides tax credits to auto producers who add or retain jobs in an electric vehicle-producing plant.

“With electric vehicles continuing to increase in popularity, now is the time to take advantage of this opportunity and work to bring as many of these manufacturing jobs into Illinois as possible,” said Vella. “Incentivizing these businesses to come to our state and expand their operations here would be a significant boost to our local economy and working families in our community and across the state. I look forward to passing this legislation and making Illinois a nationwide leader in electric vehicle manufacturing.”

During this past legislative session, Vella has worked to secure resources for the Rockford economy. He helped pass landmark energy legislation that saved the Byron Nuclear Power Plant, saving thousands of local jobs and investing millions of dollars in the Rockford area.
