CHICAGO, Ill – To ensure families are ready for the upcoming Halloween week, state Rep. Lakesia Collins, D-Chicago, is sharing tips on how to safely enjoy trick-or-treating and other Halloween events.

“Halloween is a fun holiday for the entire family to enjoy,” said Collins. “Between trick-or-treating, spending time with family and friends and hosting parties, it can be an eventful day,” said Collins. “While we are having fun, it’s important to remember basic safety tips to keep everyone safe.”

Collins is sharing the following Halloween safety tips from Safe Kids Worldwide:

  • Choose bright color and flame-retardant materials for costumes. If your child will be outdoors after dark, attach reflective tape to their costume or treat bag.
  • Accompany trick or treaters younger than 12.
  • If your child will be trick-or-treating without you, plan a curfew and familiar route.
  • Inspect treats before your child eats them.

“Safety is a top priority during holidays, and especially Halloween, to ensure everyone has a great experience,” continued Collins. “I wish everyone a Happy Halloween and good luck to trick-or-treaters!”
