SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In response to her efforts to curb violence in Lake County, state Rep. Rita Mayfield, D-Waukegan, was recently appointed by Speaker of the House Emanuel “Chris” Welch to a bipartisan Public Safety and Violence Prevention Task Force.
“Violence of any kind is an undisputed problem that affects more than just the victims,” Mayfield said. “It affects the families, communities and, in some cases, entire countries.”
The bipartisan Public Safety and Violence Prevention Task Force will study the rise in violence and identify legislative actions to improve public safety in Illinois communities. Mayfield has been a strong advocate for violence prevention efforts and policing reforms throughout her time in the General Assembly. She has been a vocal leader for common-sense gun safety reforms and supported funding to communities most plagued by gun violence.
“This Task Force will make sure all those affected directly and indirectly by violent actions of others are able to develop comprehensive solutions to violence,” said Mayfield. “I look forward to having all stakeholders work together toward lasting solutions to improve public safety in our state.”
