ROCKFORD, Ill. – As part of his efforts to hear from those around his district, state Rep. Dave Vella, D-Rockford, visited Harlem High School in Machesney Park as a “Principal for a Day.” During his visit, Vella shadowed Principal Jeremy Bois throughout the day to learn more about the school and what he could do to help support the education of students. Vella also spoke with students and facility to hear their thoughts and opinions on what they would like to see to improve the education system in Illinois, such as expanding vocational training programs.

“When it comes to preparing for the future, nothing is more important than providing our students with an education that puts them in the best possible position as they enter the workforce,” said Vella. “Whether it’s through supporting the school administration and teachers to secure resources they need or providing additional resources to students to ensure they are given every opportunity to succeed, it is critical that we in Springfield are working to improve our schools as much as possible. Providing a quality education is an investment in the future, and I look forward to working to ensure that state government is putting in its fair share towards the development of our kids.”
