WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – To help residents reclaim their property from the state, state Rep. Maura Hirschauer, D-Batavia, is hosting an I-Cash event with the Illinois Treasurer’s Office on Oct. 13 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Charles Public Library, located at 1 S. 6th Ave. in St. Charles.

“There are countless residents across the state that do not know their property is being held by the state until they claim it,” Hirschauer said. “By teaming up with the Treasurer’s office to host these I-Cash events, we are ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to look and see if they have unclaimed property.”

State Treasurer Michael Frerichs’ office has nearly $2.5 billion in unclaimed property. Unclaimed property comes in many forms, such as savings and checking accounts, customer deposits, payroll checks, refund checks and more. During the event, a representative from the treasurers’ office will be available to check the I-Cash database, explain the steps to reclaiming property and answer any questions from attendees.

“The I-Cash database is always getting updated, so I suggest everyone take advantage of the opportunity to connect with the treasurer’s office,” Hirschauer said. “Every dollar counts, especially as families continue to recover from setbacks caused by the pandemic.”
