BOLINGBROOK, Ill. – To help keep local families in their homes, state Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, is highlighting the continued availability of rental assistance through the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS).

“For local families who are struggling to pay their bills and facing housing insecurity, the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over,” Avelar said. “It is imperative that local families know help paying rent is still available in Illinois.”

Avelar is encouraging renters to take advantage of IDHS rental assistance, provided in partnership with local service agencies. Renters anywhere in Illinois are eligible for assistance through IDHS. The department’s partners can also help connect families to other programs, including mental health services, food assistance programs, and medical assistance programs. “Losing one’s home has a ripple effect that makes it harder to get or keep a job, harder for kids to succeed in school, and harder to stay healthy and safe,” Avelar said. “I encourage anyone who is struggling with rent to apply for rental assistance through IDHS to help keep their home.”
