CHICAGO – To encourage healthy habits and promote mental wellbeing, state Rep. Fran Hurley, D-Chicago, is partnering with state Rep. Kelly Burke, D-Evergreen Park, to host a tai chi workshop as a continuation of their ‘Mental Health Monday’ event series.

“My upcoming tai chi workshop is a great opportunity for people to come together with one another for fun and to reground themselves after the incredibly difficult year we have had,” said Hurley. “Connection with friends is so important for our overall wellbeing. Tai chi has also been shown to provide great health benefits including improving mood and decreasing stress, anxiety and depression.”

Hurley and Burke are inviting area residents to their upcoming tai chi workshop, which is a continuation of their ‘Mental Health Monday’ event series. The tai chi workshop will be on Monday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. at Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, located at 3857 W. 111th St. Tai chi instructor Bryant Garrett will be presenting a free one-hour tai chi class, all ages are welcome. Masks will be required while indoors during the workshop.

“Our mental health is just as important as our physical health and attending my tai chi workshop is an opportunity to learn beneficial techniques to incorporate into daily life to help improve mental health,” continued Hurley. “I encourage people to join me for a tai chi workshop for a free, fun activity to get out of the house and do something good toward their wellness.”
