SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, recently hosted a group of students from the Southwest Suburban Immigrant Project on a tour of the Illinois State Capitol.

“It was my pleasure to host students from the South Suburban Immigrant Project this past week in Springfield,” said Avelar. “Getting youth involved and engaged in the government process is extremely important. These are the future leaders of our state and nation, so it’s important they know their voices matter.”

Avelar took the students on a tour of the State Capitol in Springfield, including a tour of the House Floor. Avelar explained the legislative process and took questions from the students on what it’s like to be a representative. Students interested in taking a tour of the State Capitol with Rep. Avelar can call her constituent office at 815-372-0085 or email the office at info@repdagmara.org.

“The students asked such engaging questions and truly seemed passionate about the legislative process,” continued Avelar. “I look forward to continuing to work with the South Suburban Immigrant Project and hopefully working with these students on legislative matters in the future.”
