Mason Bringing Mobile DMV to Winthrop Harbor Community Center

WINTHROP HARBOR, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is helping residents conveniently renew driver’s licenses, plate stickers, and more by partnering with the Illinois Secretary of State’s office to bring driver services to the Winthrop Harbor Community Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12.

“Lines at the DMV are understandably very long right now since most offices were closed for an extended period of time due to COVID-19,” Mason said. “This mobile event offers a convenient option for people who haven’t been able to get into the DMV to renew their license if they aren’t able to take care of it online.”

Mason is encouraging residents who need to renew their expired driver’s license or update their plate sticker to stop by her mobile DMV next Thursday at the Winthrop Harbor Community Center, located at 1520 7th St. in Winthrop Harbor. Staff from the Secretary of State’s office will be on hand to offer the following services:

• Renewal/correction of driver’s license
• New/renewal/correction of state ID (For seniors age 65 and up, there is no charge for a state ID)
• License plate renewal stickers
• Motor voter registration with renewal of driver’s license/state ID
• Organ donor registration with renewal of driver’s license/state ID

Proper identification will be needed for all of the above services. All payments must be made by check, credit card, debit card or money order.

Seniors age 75 and over must visit a permanent Secretary of State driver’s services facility to renew driver’s licenses. Also, due to enhanced security requirements, Real ID compliant driver’s licenses and ID cards must be processed at a driver’s services facility. They are not available at mobile events.

“Depending on your needs, you may be able to avoid the crowds at DMV offices by renewing your documents with a mobile driver services unit,” Mason said. “I’m pleased to partner with the Secretary of State’s office to provide these services to residents, and I look forward to a successful event.”
