OTTAWA, Ill. – To celebrate National Park and Recreation month and bring attention to two local state parks, state Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa, is encouraging residents to visit Illinois state parks this summer.

“In the 76th District, we are lucky enough to be home to two nationally recognized state parks; Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Park,” said Yednock “These parks bring in tourists from all around the world to see the nature and wildlife available in Illinois.”

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources oversees 309 state parks that make up over 475,000 acres of land. Parks can be found throughout Illinois from the most southern parts to the most northern parts. To plan a visit, interested residents can visit the Illinois Department of Natural Resources website at https://www2.illinois.gov/dnr/Parks/Pages/default.aspx.

“I would like to thank the Illinois Department of Natural Resources employees and state park rangers who work every day to preserve and protect our natural resources for generations to come,” continued Yednock. “I encourage everyone to plan a visit to a State Park and enjoy the Illinois outdoors!”
