BOLINGBROOK, Ill. – To celebrate Park and Recreation month, state Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, is encouraging residents to get outdoors and visit Illinois state parks this summer.

“In Illinois, we are lucky enough to have several nationally renowned State parks that visitors from all over the Country come to see,” said Avelar. “The Department of Natural Resources works hard every day to protect and preserve our state wildlife and parks for generations of Illinois residents to enjoy. This month, let’s not only celebrate the work of the DNR, but also appreciate the natural beauty we have in our State.”

July is National Park and Recreation Month, where people are encouraged to spend time outside and visit their local, state and national parks. Illinois has 309 state parks that make up over 475,000 acres of land with parks scattered throughout the state. “As Illinois is reopening, so are our outdoor parks and facilities. Now is the perfect time to plan a trip with family and friends,” continued Avelar. “I encourage everyone to get outside this summer and plan time touring Illinois.”
