BOLINGBROOK, Ill. – In an effort to keep Illinois roads safe, accessible and beautiful, state Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, is announcing over $1.5 million dollars in funding for Lockport roads from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
“Illinois has had to grapple with our crumbling infrastructure for years,” said Avelar. “In my work as a legislator, I have been fighting to ensure continued investment in local infrastructure to enhance our quality of life, increase accessibility and improve our safety, when our local communities thrive our state thrives. I am incredibly excited to see that the Department of Transportation has begun funding these much-needed projects in our district and across the state.”
Recently, Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Transportation announced 99 projects throughout the state that will receive funding to build biking and walking paths, trails, streetscape beautification, and other projects designed to encourage safe travel across the various modes of transportation at the local level. The City of Lockport will receive $1,507,600 to beautify Route 171 (State St) and IL Route 7 (9th St).
“With regional growth driving higher traffic counts through the Downtown intersection of Route 171 and 159th Street, we are pleased that State lawmakers understand the importance of protecting pedestrians in the heart historic Lockport,” said Lockport Mayor, Steven Streit. “ This $1.5 million dollar grant, which adds pedestrian safety measures as well as beautification elements, acknowledges that people and livability in our Historic Business District are of prime importance.”
