CHICAGO – To help local families protect themselves against COVID-19, state Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, is partnering with Bullying Prevention Awareness 365 and the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) to distribute personal protective equipment (PPE) and the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Although vaccines have been more widely available for a few months now, we still see significant inequity in vaccine distribution in majority Black communities across the state and city,” said Slaughter. “This event will get much-needed supplies and vaccines to our communities that have been struggling to fight this virus.”
The PPE and COVID-19 vaccine distribution event will be held on Friday, June 11 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Shoop Academy, located at 11140 S. Bishop St. in Chicago. Attendees will be given care packages that include face coverings and gloves; in addition, representatives from CDPH will be on-site to administer the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines. Those interested in receiving the vaccine can register at www.rebrand.ly/BPA365_PPE. Registration is encouraged but not required, and walk-ups will be accepted.
“As we move forward to reopening the state and restoring a semblance of normalcy, we must remember that we are in this together,” said Slaughter. “Our communities must trust public health officials’ guidance and get vaccinated to defeat this pandemic.”
