CHICAGO, Ill. –  As a member of the Conference of Women Legislators since 2013 and as the 2021 Chair of the Scholarship committee, state Rep. Fran Hurley, D-Chicago, is bringing attention to the Conference of Women Legislators (COWL) scholarship opportunity for women over the age of 25.

“As a working mother, I understand how hard it can be to prioritize education when you are also providing for your family” said Hurley. “Women who otherwise might not be able to afford an education can now go to school and pursue their educational and occupational dreams thanks to this scholarship. Several women throughout the 35th District have been past winners of this scholarship and I’m excited to see future residents of the 35th receive this scholarship as well.”

The Conference on Women Legislators is providing a scholarship up to $2,500 to cover tuition, fees, and books for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. The scholarship is for women 25 years or older from any income level, who have otherwise been unable to get an education. All applicants must be Illinois residents and plan to attend an Illinois institution. The deadline is Friday, May 1st 2021. For more information, women interested can visit: https://cowl.formstack.com/forms/cowl_scholarship_application.

“As a member of the Conference of Women Legislators and the chair of the scholarship committee, I am excited to bring these opportunities to my District and the entire state of Illinois,” continued Hurley. “When we support other women, we are bettering the entire state.”
