ROCKFORD, Ill. – State Rep. Dave Vella, D-Rockford, is promoting the Conference of Women Legislators (COWL) Scholarship, which will help cover the cost of college for 10 Illinois women.

“Everyone deserves to be able to pursue a higher education, regardless of their economic situation,” Vella said. “With many individuals facing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, scholarships are more vital than ever in ensuring that every prospective student has the support they need to go to college.”

The COWL Scholarship is a one-year undergraduate scholarship that covers tuition and other expenses up to $2,500 for the 2021-2022 academic year. The scholarship is awarded to ten women who are over the age of 25, Illinois residents, and are taking six or more semester hours either in-person or online at an Illinois accredited college or university. Applications are due on May 1, with awardees being notified by June 1. For more information or to apply, please visit the application page at https://cowl.formstack.com/forms/cowl_scholarship_application.

Since entering the General Assembly, Vella has worked to help residents reach their educational and professional goals. He is supporting legislation that would create a vocational program in high schools as well as other resources to help students be prepared for employment opportunities.

“Encouraging and supporting students who choose to go to college is not only important in helping our constituents achieve their individual goals, but also in developing and diversifying our workforce,” Vella said. “Investing in our students is an investment in the future of Illinois, and I applaud the Conference of Women Legislators for awarding these important scholarships.”
