DES PLAINES, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan is being recognized for his persistent efforts in the General Assembly to provide assistance to veterans and will present a service dog to a veteran in need at a K9s for Veterans presentation ceremony on April 10.
“It is deeply humbling that K9s for Veterans offered me this incredible honor to present a service dog to a veteran who has made incredible personal sacrifices in service to their country,” Moylan said. “It is such an amazing cause that helps many veterans adjust back into civilian life, which is why I am hoping to pass legislation that will help their organizations reach more veterans in need. The men and women of our military are American heroes and we need to make sure when they come back home they have all the help they need.”
K9s for Veterans is a non-profit organization that trains service dogs and presents them to veterans in order to cope with any trauma they experienced while serving in the military. Moylan is the sponsor of House Bill 390 which would award organizations with grants to help with the costs associated with training service dogs. Following the introduction of this legislation, and his other legislative efforts to assist veterans in Illinois, Moylan was invited to present a service dog to a veteran during a dedication ceremony and fundraiser on April 10. The event will take place at the Stone City VFW Post 2199 at 124 Stone City Dr. in Joliet from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
“While it is an incredible honor to have this opportunity, the focus has to remain on the issues that veteran community faces everyday and how we can do more to address them,” Moylan said. “Nearly 20 veterans lose their lives to suicide everyday. We need to do much more in order to help the men and women who serve our country. Service dogs can be a huge help to veterans in need and I plan to do much more moving forward to make sure our veterans are taken care of.”
