GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is inviting area residents and organizations to provide testimony to the House Redistricting Committee during its virtual Lake County hearing at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
“The maps that the legislature creates in the coming months will play a critical role in determining how Lake County communities are represented over the next decade,” Mason said. “It is vital that our remapping process is open and accessible, which is why I am glad to be bringing the Redistricting Committee to Lake County to hear from everyday residents and local organizations here.”
The hearing is part of Mason’s commitment to a transparent and participatory redistricting process and is one of 23 scheduled hearings across the state where legislators will receive input from groups and individuals. Members of the public are welcome to share their thoughts on demographic trends they see in their areas, communities of interest, and other information about the region that should inform the process of creating new legislative districts.
Individuals or groups interested in testifying should contact RedistrictingCommittee@hds.ilga.gov. Please include the date and region of the hearing you wish to attend, and a brief description of the testimony you wish to share. Those interested in viewing can stream the hearing at www.ilga.gov/houseaudvid.asp. Written testimony can also be shared directly with the Redistricting Committee at any time by emailing RedistrictingCommittee@hds.ilga.gov.
“This hearing will give the Redistricting Committee a valuable opportunity to hear feedback from Lake County residents from all backgrounds and walks of life about what their communities look like,” Mason said. “I encourage anyone with ideas or concerns about the redistricting process to share their thoughts with our committee at this hearing.”
