SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – To recognize the contributions of women across the globe and acknowledge the burdens placed on women during the pandemic, state Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, D-Naperville, is highlighting International Women’s Day on March 8.

“During these challenging times, it is important to recognize the contributions from the women that keep our community afloat,” said Yang Rohr. “The pandemic has revealed that, despite the progress we’ve made for women, many women still shoulder enormous pressures to sacrifice their needs for others.”

Yang Rohr is calling attention to International Women’s Day and the impact that the pandemic has had on women’s lives. During the pandemic, women have been dropping out of the workforce at higher rates than men, according to job reports by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. To reduce this impact and offset the costs of the pandemic on women and their families, Yang Rohr is advocating for relief for small businesses, increased resources for school systems, and accessible and affordable healthcare.

“During this day of recognition for women and their achievements, it’s essential to recognize how we can address the challenges that still exist for women today,” said Yang Rohr. “This International Women’s Day, support a woman-owned business, donate to nonprofits that benefit women and their families, and spend time with the women in your life.”
