COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – Families who’ve lost employer-provided health care coverage or are uninsured for any reason have until May 15 to purchase and enroll in a plan through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace, and state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, is reminding residents that free enrollment assistance is available through Get Covered Illinois.

“As many people have lost jobs and health insurance due to the COVID-19 economic crisis, it’s important that families are aware of the extended window to enroll in a plan that meets their needs,” said Stuart. “During this special enrollment period, you have until May 15 to purchase health insurance coverage without needing to provide proof of a qualifying event.”

The ACA Health Insurance Marketplace is now open for a special enrollment period, during which people who lack health care coverage can sign up for an ACA plan. Illinois residents can shop for and compare plans through Get Covered Illinois, or get enrollment assistance from a trained professional here

“There’s never a good time to be without health insurance, and certainly not in a pandemic,” said Stuart. “If you’re in need of health care coverage, I encourage you to visit Get Covered Illinois to learn more about the options that are available to you and your family.”
