AURORA, Ill. – As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to create financial uncertainty for many, state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is hosting a series of virtual financial wellness seminars over the coming months in both Spanish and English to help provide tips and advice to community members who may be struggling to make ends meet or adapt to changes brought on by the pandemic.
“Having a good understanding of financial wellness is important so you are prepared for whenever a financial challenge arises, something many families are facing right now as a result of the pandemic,” said Hernandez. “I am hosting a series of financial wellness seminars for members of the community that will provide the base knowledge that every individual needs to feel confident about their financial literacy and be able to effectively manage their finances.”
Hernandez is partnering with KCT Credit Union and the Aurora Public Library District to provide expert financial advice over a variety of financial wellness topics, free for members of the community. The virtual seminars will be held on dates in March, April and May. The dates and topics for each event are the following:
- Tuesday, March 16 – Understanding Credit
- Thursday, April 15 – Debt Management
- Thursday, May 20 – Buying a Home
The seminars will be at 6 p.m. in Spanish and at 7:30 p.m. in English. To register for the events or for more information, individuals can contact Hernandez’s constituent services office at 630-270-1848 or at RepBarbaraHernandez@gmail.com. If individuals cannot attend a seminar, video recordings of each event will be available on Hernandez’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/RepHernandez83rd.
“I am excited to provide these important financial wellness seminars to members of our community,” said Hernandez. “No matter your age or financial situation, these seminars will help provide tips to anyone who is working on improving their credit score, managing credit card or student loan debt, buying a home in the future or anyone who wants a refresher on basic financial wellness. I encourage all local residents to tune in!”
