Springfield, Ill. – After listening to Governor JB Pritzker’s budget address, state Rep. Fran Hurley, D-Chicago, released the following statement:

“Currently our families and businesses are struggling through a global pandemic which is draining our healthcare resources and first responders. In addition, the pandemic has created an unemployment surge which needs to be addressed properly with unemployment financial support and job training tools to help those laid off find a new job. At a federal level, we need to see more support for Illinois and all individual states. Congress to pass a much more robust financial aid package for states.

“The budget address is only the first step in developing a budget. The biggest priorities of our budget need to be providing all essential services Illinoisians need to live, proper school funding, and more funding for our first responders and healthcare workers. We also need to focus on cutting out unnecessary wasteful spending so we can improve our mental health resources and other much-needed services. I look forward to working with other representatives to come up with a fair, responsible and balanced budget.”
