DES PLAINES, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is highlighting the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) newly announced Special Enrollment Period (SEP) open until May 15 to provide residents access to affordable, quality health care coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Access to affordable health care has always been extremely important for the well-being of all Illinois residents, but the COVID-19 crisis has made it more crucial than ever to have health insurance,” Moylan said. “People need to know all of the options available to them during this pandemic so that they and their families can receive the medical care they need.”

The Biden administration recently announced the reopening of the ACA health insurance marketplace in response to COVID-19. The SEP will allow for individuals and families to enroll in 2021 health insurance coverage. The marketplace is open to all Illinois residents who currently are not covered with a health insurance plan and no qualifying life event, such as job loss, is required to enroll. The ACA marketplace offers a wide variety of health care plans for residents to choose from. Residents who wish to review the options available to them or purchase coverage can do so at https://www2.illinois.gov/sites/getcovered/Pages/default.aspx.

“So many Illinoisans have lost their jobs because of COVID-19, and consequently lost their health insurance which is absolutely critical to have during an unprecedented public health emergency,” Moylan said. “All those experiencing unemployment, or anyone else in need of a health care plan, need to know the health care options available to them so they can choose a plan that best fits their needs.”
