ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is highlighting the opportunity for residents to enroll in or change their healthcare plans with the recent reopening of the ACA Health Insurance Marketplace.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of having quality health insurance coverage has never been clearer,” said Yingling. “By extending the open enrollment period, residents can have access to the health insurance choices that they need.”

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the insurance marketplace will be open from February 15, 2021 to April 15, 2021 to allow both individuals and families to apply for and enroll in 2021 health insurance coverage. This Special Enrollment Period (SEP) applies to anyone who does not currently have health insurance or those that would like to switch from their current health insurance plan. Some residents may qualify for financial assistance to help reduce costs.

Since entering the General Assembly, Yingling has worked to keep healthcare costs down for residents. Recently, he helped pass legislation that capped monthly insulin prices. He also hosts healthcare-related events throughout his district, including seminars informing residents on how to enroll for health insurance coverage.

“With the many financial burdens that residents are facing, requiring people to pay healthcare bills out of pocket puts an undue burden on working families,” said Yingling. “Affordable healthcare is a basic right, but high costs prevent people from receiving the essential care that they need to survive. People should not be prevented from being healthy and well simply because a handful of multi-billion dollar companies are more concerned about making a profit than helping people.”
