“Over the past year, cities and villages have faced massive challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Hernandez. “As we enter a new session, I look forward to my new role as vice chair of the House Cities and Villages Committee to continue collaboration with local governments to ensure that they are getting the support they need while also supporting and providing relief for taxpayers.”
During the legislative process, each bill is assigned to a relevant committee, making committees one of the first steps in the lawmaking process. Hernandez intends to prioritize economic recovery for local governments, ensure critically needed support for institutions of higher education, provide support for municipalities struggling to adapt to changes brought on by the pandemic and implement policies that promote renewable energy and help address the effects of climate change.
“We have a long road ahead of us to provide the much-needed relief our communities need from the pandemic, as well as continuing our work to build a stronger Illinois,” said Hernandez. “I am eager and excited for the work that lies ahead and committed to working to implement important legislation that addresses the most pressing issues facing our state.”
