SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Nicholas Smith, D-Chicago, issued the following statement after Governor Pritzker’s State of the State and Budget address on Wednesday:
“The governor’s address was a good starting point but there is so much more that needs to get done. This pandemic has hit struggling families and small businesses the hardest, which is why I’m committed to working with the legislature to provide real relief to workers, parents, and small businesses throughout Illinois as soon as possible.
“In the past year, we have been hit with so many new expenses because of the pandemic. To meet the moment, we must have an aggressive plan for testing, vaccine distribution, school safety, and job training. The Trump administration did not take the pandemic seriously and failed to provide relief, but now we need Congress to act swiftly to provide necessary assistance to states.”
