SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In response to the governor’s annual budget address, state Rep. Aaron Ortiz, D-Chicago, released the following statement:

“As we begin to craft a state budget in the wake of an unprecedented health crisis, it is important that we prioritize the resources our communities need most. The governor’s budget address is just the first step in creating a bipartisan, responsible plan that meets our needs while controlling spending and staying within our means.

“We must work together to ensure necessary investments in COVID-19 response, including expanded testing, treatment and efficient vaccine distribution. We must also lay the groundwork for economic recovery by providing support for local businesses, funding for unemployment assistance and resources for essential workers, while continuing to invest in our schools, universities and job training programs. In addition, it is critical that we continue to fund the services that many rely on, such as domestic violence shelters, senior care and violence prevention programs.

“I am committed to fighting for the resources our families need, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure the passage of a responsible budget that reflects our priorities.”
