ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – To ensure that hospitals have a stable blood supply, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is encouraging residents to give blood and learn about the many benefits to the community that blood donors provide.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic has shown, the health and safety of individuals is heavily impacted by the actions of those within their community,” said Yingling. “Much like how social distancing has saved countless lives, giving blood is an important way to keep our community healthy.”

According to the American Red Cross, there is currently a critical need for blood donations. In the United States, someone requires blood every two seconds. Blood donations go to cancer patients, trauma patients, burn patients, and many others. Those who have fully recovered from the COVID-19 virus are also highly encouraged to give blood to help those currently battling COVID-19, as the antibodies found in the blood of those who recovered from the virus can be used to help fight off the virus in others. To find additional information about upcoming blood drives, and ways to volunteer, please visit the American Red Cross’s website at https://www.redcrossblood.org/.

“As we continue to do our part to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, it is still important to keep in mind the other health of our community,” said Yingling. “I highly encourage residents to take a small amount of their day to give blood and save lives.”
