SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, issued the following statement after being sworn in as a legislator in the 102nd Illinois General Assembly on Wednesday:
“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused tremendous loss and anguish for residents across Illinois. That is why now, more than ever, we must ensure that residents are able to access high quality health care and other critical services. The economic fallout from this unprecedented public health crisis has also put the financial stability of small businesses throughout the state in serious jeopardy. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and I will fight to provide robust relief to support them.
“Throughout the pandemic, frontline medical workers and other essential workers have continued to provide critical resources to those most in need. We all owe them a tremendous debt, and we must continue to support them as they have supported us and our communities throughout this crisis.
“Another one of my top priorities will be to pass comprehensive ethics reforms. For far too long we have seen public officials in our state abuse their offices and game the system for themselves. We cannot sit idly by as the public trust is betrayed. I am committed to reforming lobbying practices, eliminating conflicts of interest among legislators and state officials, increasing oversight of elected officials, lobbyists and state employees and holding anyone responsible for ethical violations accountable. While we made some good initial steps toward ethical reform in the 101st General Assembly, there is plenty of work to still be done and I look forward to doing so with my fellow legislators in the 102nd General Assembly.
“I am deeply honored to be continuing my tenure as a representative of the 55th legislative district of Illinois. It is a tremendous responsibility, and I look forward to working with stakeholders within our community to help build a stronger Illinois.”
