SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Jaime Andrade, Jr., D-Chicago, issued the following statement Wednesday after being sworn in for a new term as state representative of the 40th District:

“As we begin a new legislative session, my focus is on providing much-needed relief to displaced workers and small business owners, while supporting medical staff, teachers and other frontline workers who have continuously put their health on the line to help others. This past year has been incredibly challenging for families across our community, and it has highlighted the importance of having accessible health care for all.

“The pandemic has created numerous challenges, with little time for families to adjust. That is why I have introduced and am pushing legislation to help cover costs associated with purchasing computers, tablets and other school supplies for remote learning. Every bit of help matters, and it is critical that we take action in Springfield and do not rely upon lawmakers in Washington to come through with relief. Other measures such as the recently placed pillars brought forth in the House by the Black Caucus to remedy a range of issues that will be at the forefront of the new General Assembly.

“There is no question we will face difficult decisions in the months ahead, and I remain committed to supporting essential services our families depend on. I have seen firsthand how dangerous this virus is, and I am forever grateful for the dedication and work delivered every day by frontline workers. Despite the fact that I have had to be sworn in back home instead of with my colleagues downstate,  I am honored for the opportunity to serve as a voice for our communities in Springfield.”
