GURNEE, Ill. – To support young people with disabilities, state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is hosting a Sensory-Friendly Santa Zoom from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
“For children with certain disabilities, the sounds and activities involved with a typical Santa visit can feel overwhelming, so finding a stress-free way to meet with Santa can be difficult,” Mason said. “While visiting Santa in person might not be an option this year, I still wanted to offer a safe and inclusive opportunity for these young people to spend time with Santa in an environment that makes them feel comfortable.”
Mason’s Sensory-Friendly Santa Zoom is free and open to the public. The event will be separated into fifteen-minute time slots, allowing each child to have a one-on-one visit with Santa that is tailored to their needs. Additional dates and appointment times will be added as needed. Families are encouraged to provide Mason’s office with relevant information about their children ahead of time, such as their interests, dislikes or gift wish lists. To sign up for a time slot, please call 847-485-9986 or email Info@RepJoyceMason.com.
“All children deserve the opportunity to have a visit with Santa that is supportive of them and fully addresses their needs,” Mason said. “While our sensory-friendly Santa will be virtual this year, I plan to have him back next year when I hope we will all be able to share holiday cheer in person again.”
