ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is raising awareness about a college scholarship opportunity from the Illinois Conservation Foundation (ICF) for high school seniors that have shown dedication to conserving Illinois’ natural resources.

“As high school seniors start to look forward to college, looking for various scholarship opportunities is a great way to keep the costs of college as low as possible,” said Yingling. “I highly encourage any student who has taken action in helping conserve our environment to take a few minutes and apply for this scholarship.”

The 2021 Conservation Achievement Scholarship program is a $2,000 scholarship that will be awarded to up to four students. The scholarship is given to high school seniors who have shown long-term dedication to preserving Illinois’ natural resources. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2021, and students must live in Illinois to apply. Throughout his time in the General Assembly, Yingling has worked to help students navigate the costs of higher education. He supported a budget that increases funding for the Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grant, which makes college more affordable for middle and lower-income students. In addition, he has hosted FAFSA seminars throughout the district.

“No student should be prevented from going to college because they can’t afford it,” said Yingling. “While I work in Springfield to make sure that students are being allocated the resources they deserve, I will continue making sure that students have up-to-date information on scholarship and financial aid opportunities.”
