DECATUR, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, is encouraging local residents to sign up for health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) ahead of the Dec. 15 deadline for health insurance coverage starting on Jan. 1, 2021.

“The open enrollment period is an opportunity for residents to get health care coverage from the Affordable Care Act using the Get Covered Illinois marketplace,” Scherer said. “With so many people losing their jobs and health insurance due to the pandemic, I want to encourage residents to act as soon as possible to get coverage for themselves and their families.”

The Get Covered Illinois marketplace provides a wide range of health care coverage options for individuals and families, along with financial assistance options. At GetCoveredIllinois.gov, residents can find resources such as frequently asked questions and one-on-one financial assistance. The Get Covered Illinois help line is also available for residents by calling 866-311-1119. The sign-up period for health care plans that cover the 2021 calendar year is open through Dec. 15. If an individual currently has a health care plan through the ACA marketplace, their coverage automatically rolls over for the new year.

“The pandemic has continued to show the need for quality, affordable health insurance for all Illinoisans,” Scherer said. “By completing a simple online checklist, you can get the assistance needed to help you make the right decision for you and your family, making the process quick and as easy as possible.”
