LOMBARD – State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, is urging residents to apply to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) “Snowbird” program, which hires people to help with road maintenance during the winter months.
“We haven’t had much snow and ice so far this season, but this clear weather won’t last forever,” Costa Howard said. “IDOT will need additional help to keep the roads clear when winter hits full strength. Any residents interested in working for IDOT this winter should check the website as soon as possible to find out if they’re qualified and begin the application process.”
IDOT is accepting applications for full-time temporary highway maintenance workers (monthly Snowbirds) and on-call as-needed truck operators (hourly Snowbirds). Both positions require a Class A or B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with an X or N endorsement. Full information is available at idot.illinois.gov/about-idot/employment-opportunities/seasonal-employment. Jobs based in DuPage County are limited to monthly Snowbirds only.
“IDOT works year-round to maintain safe roads, and that work is even more important during wintry weather,” Costa Howard added. “The Snowbird program offers an opportunity to make money this winter while helping to keep our friends and neighbors safe and secure on Illinois highways.”
