ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – To assist parents and others shopping for children in finding safe gifts this holiday season, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is highlighting the Illinois Attorney General’s Safe Shopping Guide.

“This holiday season is unique, as many residents will be doing their gift shopping online rather than in-person due to the pandemic,” said Manley. “Unfortunately, this increases the risk of accidentally purchasing something unsafe, because some recalled toys can still be bought through online retailers. To ensure the gifts you purchase are safe, I encourage parents, grandparents and others shopping for children to use the Safe Shopping Guide. It is a great tool that can give us peace of mind knowing that the gifts we give are safe.”

Manley is urging parents and others shopping for children this holiday season to check the Illinois Attorney General’s Safe Shopping Guide, which outlines recalls issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission during 2020. The guide offers descriptions of toys, clothing, furniture and other products that are potential safety hazards for a variety of reasons, including choking hazards, dangerous lead levels and flammability concerns and can be accessed by visiting https://illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/2020_Safe_Shopping_Guide.pdf.

“As a grandparent I know that we all want the best for the children in our lives, especially during the holidays after such a difficult year,” said Manley. “I encourage those shopping for children to take advantage of the Safe Shopping Guide to help ensure your family has a happy and safe holiday season.”
