SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – As we enter the beginning of the holiday gift shopping season, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, is alerting residents to the Illinois Attorney General’s annual Safe Shopping Guide to help parents and others shopping for children avoid purchasing dangerous or recalled children’s toys and products.
“As a parent, I know that we all want the best for the children in our lives this holiday season,” said Mussman. “Helpfully, the Illinois Attorney General’s office helps give peace of mind with the annual Safe Shopping Guide to ensure those shopping for children share gifts that are safe.”
Mussman is urging parents and others shopping for children this holiday season to check out the Illinois Attorney General’s Safe Shopping Guide, which outlines recalls issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission during 2020. The guide offers descriptions of toys, clothing, furniture and other products that are potential safety hazards for a variety of reasons, including choking hazards, dangerous lead levels and flammability concerns and can be accessed by visiting https://illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/2020_Safe_Shopping_Guide.pdf.
“This holiday season is unique, as many of us will be taking advantage of online shopping due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” continued Mussman. “This can be risky, because even if major retailers have removed dangerous products from their shelves, it is possible that they could still be found on secondhand sites. It is always better to be safe rather than sorry, so I encourage those shopping for children this year to check out the Safe Shopping Guide to ensure you have the information you need to enjoy a safe and happy holiday season.”
Mussman represents the 56th District, which contains portions of Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Roselle, Rolling Meadows and Palatine.
