GURNEE, Ill. – As coronavirus cases continue to rise in Illinois, state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is asking community members to help slow the spread of the virus by abiding by the state’s newly reimposed Tier 3 mitigations. Tier 3 restrictions were reimplemented on Friday in an effort to curb Illinois’ second wave of COVID-19 infections.
“We are seeing unprecedented levels of coronavirus spread in our state and community,” Mason said. “When this crisis began in the spring, we knew a fall resurgence was a real possibility, but I sincerely hoped that wouldn’t be the case. Now, cooler weather is here, and we’re facing the largest spike in cases we have ever seen in Illinois. It’s time for all of us to do our part to get this outbreak under control.”
Under Tier 3 mitigations, indoor dining at bars and restaurants is prohibited, grocery stores and pharmacies are limited to 50% capacity and all other retail stores are limited to 25% capacity. Tier 3 restrictions also advise residents against hosting at-home gatherings with individuals outside of their households. “This spring, we came together and made many difficult sacrifices to flatten the curve, and it paid off. New cases and deaths fell, small businesses reopened and many students were able to return to the classroom for the start of the new school year,” Mason said. “What we’ve seen over the past year is that these mitigations are highly effective when we all do our part. It won’t be easy, but I know that together we can overcome this second wave of infections, protect our economy and save countless lives.”
