DES PLAINES, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, supports the recent funding given to public museums for various projects they are conducting, reaffirming his support of museums and cultural centers throughout Illinois.

“Illinois is rich in culture and history, and the wonderful institutions that allow us to learn more about our cultural and historical background throughout the state attract millions of visitors every year,” Moylan said. “I have always encouraged residents to visit these institutions, which is why I have, and continue to encourage residents to reach out to my office to inquire about free visits to more than a dozen museums, zoos, cultural centers and more in Chicagoland.”

The Illinois Public Museum Capital Grants Program recently awarded $22.8 million to 43 museums to improve and expand their facilities and exhibits. This program is funded through the bipartisan Rebuild Illinois Capital Program. The grants are administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and are available to any museum located on municipally owned land or operated by a local government entity.

“These institutions have tremendous historical and cultural value, but also help stimulate the economy through the millions of visitors they attract every year, and an excellent way to generate more economic growth through these museums is to improve and expand upon them which is what these grants will help accomplish,” Moylan said. “Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 museums are temporarily closed, but once it is safe for them to reopen, residents can reach out to my office and set up free visits to eligible institutions throughout Chicagoland.”
