COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, is highlighting the open enrollment period for residents to shop the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Health Insurance Marketplace for coverage. The open enrollment period is open now through December 15 to shop for healthcare coverage for 2021.
“The open enrollment period is an opportunity for individuals to get healthcare coverage that has been provided at the federal level for Illinois residents,” said Stuart, “As many people have lost jobs and consequently healthcare coverage due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the open enrollment period is the time to make sure that you have health insurance that is right for you and your family for the coming year.”
During open enrollment, individuals lacking healthcare coverage or wanting to change their current healthcare plan can shop different plan options through the marketplace. Additionally, Stuart wants residents to know that if they currently have a healthcare plan through the ACA marketplace, they are automatically enrolled in their current plan for the coming year. For more information about open enrollment and shopping, the ACA marketplace can be found here as part of the Illinois Get Covered program.
“I encourage residents to go to Illinois Get Covered to get up to date information regarding healthcare plans and for any questions that they have regarding open enrollment,” said Stuart. “By checking a quick provided checklist and information available, they can help determine if they want to get healthcare coverage through the ACA marketplace and what plans may suit their best needs.”
