CICERO, Ill. – As a final push for all community members to get counted, state Rep. Lisa Hernandez, D-Cicero, is hosting a grand finale to the census from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28 at Cicero Community Park. The event will feature a prayer of healing, food, and much more.

“The importance of everyone participating in the census is beyond measure,” said Hernandez. “The more people complete it, the more funding we receive for our local schools, nutrition programs, housing assistance and other critical resources. During these difficult times, it is of utmost priority that we take every step to increase participation.”

Hernandez, along with the Town of Cicero, the non-profit Rincon Family Services, and other partners, will be hosting a celebration to maximize census participation before the final deadline. The Our Heritage Counts/¡Nuestra Herencia Cuenta! titled event will be held on Monday, Sept. 28 at Cicero Community Park, located at S. Laramie Ave. and W. 34th St. in Cicero. It will last from 4:00 to 7:00 in the afternoon. Tacos, mariachi bands, dancing, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and much more will be available for participants. Additionally, a prayer for healing will be offered by the Cicero Clergy Committee at the event. Face masks and social distancing are required.

“I’m proud of how much we have been able to accomplish these last few months to boost census response rates,” said Hernandez. “We are now in the final stretch, and we must work even harder to ensure we get all of the resources our community deserves.”
