JOLIET, Ill. – State Rep. Larry Walsh, Jr., D-Elwood, issued the following statement after learning of Exelon’s plans to close nuclear plants in Dresden and Byron:

“As the Chairman of the House Public Utilities Committee, I am deeply troubled to learn that Exelon announced plans to proceed with closing nuclear plants located in Dresden and Byron. These facilities employ a dedicated workforce of skilled workers with high-paying jobs who contribute heavily to local economic activity. I stand willing and ready to engage in good faith with the business community, labor and other stakeholders to negotiate a reasonable and cost-effective solution to prevent any expedited or unilateral rush to closure. The economic implications of closing these plants would be devastating, and I am committed to exploring every possible course of action to safeguard their future.”
