CICERO, Ill. – As the Census draws to a close, state Rep. Lisa Hernández, D-Cicero, will host weekly Cafecito gatherings in front of her office to inform and encourage residents of her district to participate in the nationwide count.

“While the recent COVID-19 pandemic has hampered many of the everyday things we do, we must continue to carry out essential civic duties,” Hernández said. “Making sure everyone is counted in the Census is crucial to ensuring our community receives the resources and representation it deserves.”

Starting Aug. 27 through the end of September, Hernández will host a Cafecito every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at her office, located at 6117 W. Cermak Rd. in Cicero. Hernández’s staff will have laptop computers available to give visitors an opportunity to fill out and submit their Census information online.

Coffee, along with tamales, will be served to those who come during event hours. Participants will be asked to maintain social distancing and mask wearing guidelines. Census registration is not restricted to event hours and visitors can register earlier if desired.

“The more people fill out their Census information, the more our local community programs can be funded,” Hernández said. “It does not take long to fill out your Census information, I encourage everyone who has not completed it yet to make it a priority this month.”

The last day to self-respond online, by phone or mail for the 2020 Census will be Sept. 30. To fill out the Census at home, go to My2020Census.gov or call 844-330-2020.
