DES PLAINES, Ill. – Ahead of the upcoming school year, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is outlining the food distribution procedures of local schools which have been adjusted to accommodate remote learning and correspond with COVID-19 safety protocols.
“The COVID-19 crisis has forced schools to implement many modifications to traditional procedures, including school meal distribution,” Moylan said. “Students depend on these meals every day, and remote learning cannot stop them from receiving the nutrition these kids need.”
Maine Township High School District 207 will distribute meals at Maine East’s bus concourse, Maine South’s main entrance and Maine West’s bus concourse to students on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Community Consolidated School District 62 will distribute meals at Algonquin Middle School’s south parking lot, Chippewa Middle School’s east parking lot, Iroquois Middle School’s north parking lot and North Elementary School’s south black top Monday through Friday between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. All students who qualify for free or reduced price meals will continue to receive them. Wearing masks and social distancing will be maintained at the meal distribution sites.
“The safety procedures put into place by these schools are necessary and the decisions of many families to continue remote learning to begin the upcoming school year are completely justified and will help limit exposure to COVID-19,” Moylan said. “I want to thank all of the teachers and school staff who have worked so hard to find solutions during this public health crisis and will continue to teach and provide invaluable resources to the children of our community. They’re help is greatly appreciated during these trying times.”
