Moylan Praises State’s Investment in Clean Energy, Encourages Local Development

DES PLAINES, Ill. – As an advocate of renewable energy and the economic benefits that go along with investment in it, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, firmly supports the recent investment announced by Gov. J.B. Pritzker to construct the Green Era Renewable Energy and Urban Farming Campus on Chicago’s south side.

“Innovative projects like the Green Era Renewable Energy and Urban Farming Campus are all around game changers and I am very glad that the state has invested in expanding clean energy and the economy,” Moylan said. “This project, and others like it, shows us that investment in clean energy is not only environmentally conscious, but can stimulate economic development. I hope to see more projects in the future that will expand clean energy and create jobs in my own community and across the state.”

The Green Era Renewable Energy and Urban Farming Campus received $2 million in funding from the Rebuild Illinois program along with a $1 million loan from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The campus plans to grow and sell between 14,000 and 26,000 pounds of organic produce each year in addition to creating renewable clean energy by composting recycled food waste. With the final investment from the state, the project has the funding to begin developing the vacant lot on Chicago’s south side. The campus is expected to be fully operational by the spring of 2022.

“Job creation is extremely important right now as we continue to deal with the economic crisis brought on by COVID-19, and this project will bring hundreds of job opportunities to this community,” Moylan said. “Investing in clean energy is an investment in a sustainable future and economic growth, which is why I cosponsored the Clean Energy Jobs Act and hope to pass it into law.”
