DES PLAINES, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is informing Cook County property owners of the postponement on any enforcement of late payment fees for property tax bills.
“While it is always wise to pay your taxes on time, the economic downturn brought on by the COVID-19 crisis has left people struggling to afford their bills, and we have to implement accommodations for them,” Moylan said. “Now property owners have some breathing room and have some more time to get their finances in order.”
The second installment of Cook County property tax bills are due Aug. 3. In an effort to provide some financial relief amid the current economic climate, the Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas will allow property owners to make payments with no late penalties until Oct. 1. Property owners can view their property tax bills and make payments at https://www.cookcountytreasurer.com/default.aspx.
“Our communities are struggling economically because of COVID-19, and I’m thankful that Cook County is taking commonsense, responsible action to help homeowners,” Moylan said. “This extension will help property tax owners, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on finding additional solutions to help all Illinois residents get through this crisis.”
