CHICAGO – State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, is promoting the expansion of essential services that are now available through the Help Illinois Families initiative to support working families affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.
“This unprecedented health crisis has put a lot of Illinoisans out of work and many working families can no longer afford to pay their bills,” said Slaughter. “The expansion of these resources will help ensure our families can access the essential services they need to get through these uncertain times.”
To support working families impacted by the outbreak, Slaughter is promoting the Help Illinois Families initiative following the expansion of services provided through the state’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program. Eligible Illinois residents and families can apply to receive assistance with food, rent, utilities, temporary shelter, medicine and other essential household services. For more information on the expanded resources and the application process, please visit www.helpillinoisfamilies.com.
“Although these services will help many impacted by the outbreak, I recognize more work remains to be done to ensure all families have access to the resources they need,” Slaughter said. “No matter the circumstances, every Illinois family is deserving of empathy, compassion and support.”
