DES PLAINES, Ill – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is reminding residents of the upcoming July 15 deadline to file their taxes, which was delayed from the usual date in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Throughout this whole crisis we have faced immense challenges, and I am glad that this 91 day extension was able to provide some relief,” Moylan said. “Now, with the deadline nearly here, residents must get their tax materials and all of the information they need in order to ensure they file on time.”

The tax filing deadline, both federally and in Illinois, was extended 91 days from April 15 to July 15 in order to alleviate some of the financial strain placed on residents by the COVID-19 crisis. Residents in need of assistance filing their state taxes can call the Illinois Department of Revenue hotline at 800-732-8866. For information or assistance with filing federal taxes, residents can visit www.irs.gov.

“I want to strongly encourage residents who have not yet filed their taxes to do so as soon as possible,” Moylan said. “With all of the financial strain and economic troubles our state is experiencing, the last thing residents need is to pay additional penalties, which is why it is important not to wait and file as soon as possible.”
