DES PLAINES, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines is encouraging families experiencing food instability during the COVID-19 public health crisis to take advantage of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program providing families with cash payments for the purpose of purchasing food.
“The COVID-19 crisis has created a slew of unprecedented obstacles for families across Illinois, and as legislators it is our duty to find solutions and face these challenges head on,” Moylan said. “That is why I was determined to pass a state budget designed to empathize with residents and help them overcome the issues brought on by the pandemic.”
A total of $11.5 million was set aside for one time payments of $500 to ensure food security to families hit hard by COVID-19 and the ensuing economic downturn in the Moylan-supported state budget. This TANF initiative is one of several new strategies enacted by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) in an effort to assist families. Further information about this program including one’s eligibility and other avenues to receive financial assistance for food security can be found at the IDHS website at https://www.dhs.state.il.us/page.aspx?item=29721.
“Continued investment throughout our communities is vital to the future of our state and will help revitalize our economy,” Moylan said. “As legislators and fellow Illinoisians we must continue to persevere and support those who need it the most during this crisis.”
