CHICAGO – To honor the impact local seniors have made on the community, state Rep. Fran Hurley, D-Chicago, is encouraging residents to nominate a senior they know for the Illinois Department on Aging’s (IDoA) 2020 Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame Awards.

“There is so much we can learn from the older adults in our lives, including our friends, family members and neighbors,” said Hurley. “Their meaningful contributions to our neighborhoods, community and state as a whole deserve recognition, which is a positive way to show our support as so many of us have faced hardship in recent months.”

Hurley is encouraging area residents to nominate a senior, and Illinois resident age 65 or older, they know for the 2020 Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame Awards. Nominations are accepted in the following categories: community service, education, labor force and performance/graphic arts. The deadline for nominations is Monday, August 31 and can be submitted by visiting the Illinois Department on Aging’s website at www.illinois.gov/aging or by calling the Senior HelpLine at 800-252-8966. Nominations can also be submitted directly to Rep. Hurley’s office by calling 773-445-8128 or emailing RepFranHurley@gmail.com.

“As our community continues to face difficulty due to the COVID-19 pandemic now would be a great time to help uplift and honor a senior you know,” continued Hurley. “Honoring the special seniors in our community is a great way to celebrate and support their legacy and recognize the amount of potential that is in each of us.”
