“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to negatively impact our community’s health and financial wellbeing, small businesses are hurting more and more,” said Yingling. “Small businesses are a vital part of the economy of our communities. Keeping them from shutting down during these difficult times is imperative.”
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) will be administering BIG grants to businesses that have experienced losses or interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant amount varies based on business type, with grants up to $10,000 for barbershops and salons and grants up to $20,000 for restaurants, bars, and gyms. For more information or to apply, please visit DCEO’s BIG page at https://www2.illinois.gov/dceo/SmallBizAssistance/Pages/C19DisadvantagedBusGrants.aspx.
During his time as state representative, Yingling has fought to support small businesses. Recently, he voted in favor of a new law that allows businesses with a liquor license to sell mixed cocktails for pick-up and delivery. He also supported expanding tax credits for small and medium-sized businesses.
“Small businesses who have served our communities for years should not have to close down because of a situation beyond their control,” Yingling continued. “Our small businesses need relief now, and I highly encourage struggling business owners that have been negatively impacted by this pandemic to apply for these grants.”
