BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. – State Rep. Diane Pappas, D-Itasca, is promoting the American Red Cross as well as the local blood bank, Versiti Blood Center of Illinois, to help address the renewed need for blood donations during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“As the state begins to safely reopen and hospitals resume other surgeries, the need for blood donations is expected to increase,” said Pappas. “While some may still have concerns about giving blood, I want to remind residents that according to current expert medical guidelines, blood donations remain perfectly safe. I encourage all healthy, eligible residents to donate blood if they can.”

Residents who are interested in giving blood can contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 or https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive. Residents can also contact the Versiti Blood Center of Illinois at 800-786-4483 or https://www.versiti.org/about-us.

“As we look toward getting our state back on track, it is imperative that patients have access to life-saving blood,” said Pappas. “In order to help patients in need, we must all work together to ensure our blood banks are fully supplied.”

Residents can stay informed on developments with the COVID-19 pandemic by reviewing the State of Illinois website at www.coronavirus.illinois.gov. Pappas encourages residents who need help navigating services to contact her district office at 224-520-8838 or RepDPappas@gmail.com.
